Meet the storyteller

Curiosity is a good place to begin.

OBrien Ideas is the independent, personal creative project of J. O’Brien — a place for books, learning, and the things that happen when an idea is given room to grow.

Personal ideas. Careful experiments. Useful lessons.

OBrien Ideas grows from J. O’Brien’s curiosity and the pleasure of making something from an idea. Sometimes that becomes a story or a game. Sometimes it becomes a tool, a clearer explanation, or an experiment that raises another question.

J. O’Brien brings the ideas, questions, and creative direction. AI and other tools help turn them into drafts, designs, and working projects. The process includes trying things, examining the details, changing direction, and checking what actually works.

Dependability is part of that curiosity. How do we preserve useful work? How do we recover when something fails? How can a tool remain useful when a connection is unavailable? Those questions sit alongside the creative ones, with care for the people who may eventually use what takes shape.

“These are my experiments.” Some may grow into finished projects; others may remain lessons worth sharing. There is room for both.

Learning about generative and agentic AI also helped inspire The Library That Keeps Secrets, an illustrated story currently in development.

More than one kind of idea.

Books live here alongside plain-language learning and creative experiments. OBrien Games has its own home, while OBrien Ideas brings the broader work together.
